Brief Description

 Under general supervision, performs design, analysis, and programming functions as a member of a technical team using standard procedures and techniques. Work efforts can vary from designing, developing and implementing custom solutions to assessing and implementing packaged solutions to meet IT Operations and business needs.  Activities also include operational monitoring of important business applications and understanding impact of issues and alerts.  Work assignments will normally be given with general instructions orally or in writing. It is expected that technical guidance may be required for assignments of a more complex nature. Should be willing to expand knowledge through continuing education and/or training. Responsible for meeting and adhering to Best Practices.

Detailed Description
  • Administrative/Supervisory Activities: Reporting on the status of assigned projects both orally and in writing
  • Planning and Control Activities: Participating in initial plans for assigned tasks to review with supervisor
  • Program Development Activities: Designs, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting moderately complex solutions for IT Operations or business needs; solutions may utilize or be implemented on various platforms like Microsoft SharePoint; activities also include packaged solutions assessments and implementations, IT Operations systems management and applications monitoring
  • Document Preparation Activities: Preparing system use cases and other design specifications; preparing and executing unit test plans, integration test plans, and software installation documentation
  • Problem Analysis Activities: Participating in problem analysis and system design preparatory to development of programs. Defines and solves problems involving specific programs or portions of specific systems
Job Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related science is required. The combination of a two-year technical degree and Technical certifications, such as Microsoft's MCAD (Microsoft Certified Application Developer) may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree
  • 2-5 years of related work experience programming with one or more of the following:  C#, Java, HTML, ASP, ASP.NET, JSP, and be comfortable with Windows and Unix.  Also, requires experience in relational DBMS (i.e., Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Knowledge of relevant software development platforms, such as Microsoft's Visual Studio, with emphasis in C#, as well as XML and must have a minimum of 1 year experience utilizing Microsoft SQL server (2000+) and Oracle 9i as a backend and working with RDBMS
  • Understanding of concepts for IT Operations applications monitoring and the processes to address issues.  Experience with systems management and monitoring solutions like HP Business Service Management (BSM), HP OpenView, and Microsoft Systems Center (SCCM and SCOM) desired
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and various SharePoint Enterprise features such as Access Services, Forms Services, Excel Services, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of programming concepts and techniques required
  • Sound knowledge of system development principles, procedures and methodologies required
  • Ability to work on general programming tasks without instruction. Has some knowledge of other phases of applications development, such as quality assurance testing and walkthroughs
  • Ability to interact with all levels of personnel and communicate clearly in a professional manner.
  • Possess a working knowledge of PC software programs, including MS Office Suite, Visio, and MS Project.
  • Exceptional skills to take general input and direction from project leads (Senior Programmer Analyst or Technical Specialist) and to subsequently organize and complete projects independently
